Spring Scenes 2003

I'm going to have to take more time
to sit here and read a good book.

The flowers sure are lovely, but boy that sidewalk needs fixing!

Some recent improvements.

This is the Entertainment Center for the new Media Room (the old dining room)
Ma's dining room table went to Charles and Peggy's new house at Evergreen.

Completely rebuilt the back porch bathroom just because the old sink started leaking. It only took a year.

Removed the shower in the downstairs bathroom and built a storage cabinet in it's place.
Relocated the door to the left and started a picture gallery on the knoty pine wall..

This ceiling fixture on the back porch look a little
better than the single light bulb it replaced..

Scenes from around the house and a few antiques
My new Queen Size Bedroom Suite in the downstairs bedroom.
Purchased it in January 2003 along with a new Craftmatic bed.
You know - the one that the head and foot are raised electrically.
It even has a remote control and I can't wait until I let someone else sleep in it. :-)
New more masculine curtains and gave away Ma's dressing table because it just didn't fit in.

I made this little display case
for Pop's Belt Buckel collection

This painting was made on an old sawmill saw blade
and given to Pop as a Christmas Present by Charles and Peggy
I think I'll mount it on the bedroom door.

Ma's ceramic bird collection

I think some people are licking their chops over these.

Robbie Inscoe gave me this nice stereo cabinet.
Pop's old Chest of Drawers is still good enough for me.

My Sony WEGA 32" flat screen TV, with 6 speaker Home Theater
Sound System will be moved to the Media Room in the future.
Which will make the den a lot more roomy.

I made this china hutch for my stereo equipment,
but it's more of a bookcase now.
That's one of my two keyboards I can't play.

New recliner and curtains, and couch Pop bought a couple of years ago.

Part of my German Beer Stein collection. The rest are on display at the camping office.

Nice marble top chest in the Media Room
I like the chandalier even though it's dinky compared
to the one Peggy has in her bathroon at the new house.

The china cabinet I gave to Heather and Rob.

This is the NEW queen size bed I purchased at the Hecht store at Dulles Town Center
on one of my big after Christmas sprees with Amanda and Danielle.
( I also got THREE sport coats and two pants ON SALE at Pennys. Wow! What bargains ! )
One reason I wanted a queen size was to replace the twin bed in the back bedroom
AND to use the FREE queen size mattress I got from Craftmatic. Because it had
a small flaw and they were just going to throw it away. "Oh NO", says I.
I made the stained glass light fixture in this room.

More from the back bedroom upstairs

Upstairs hallway bookcase, Lane cedar chest and gun cabinet.
Don't ask me how I got started collecting woven baskets because I don't know.

My old bedroom paneled by Sam Morris in 1970 who did a great job that still looks good.
That's my Weatherby 243 rifle mounted on the wall using riding spurs.

When Mom and Pop moved their bedroom downstairs Ma insisted on moving the living room upstairs.
Since then we just use the room for storage.

This mirror was hand made by A.P. Weathers and given to
Florance Gardner (my Grandmother) as a wedding present in 1896.

Outside I replace the old crumbling sidewalk and extended it completely around the house.

A low brick wall was added arounded the flower beds.

It will take a couple of years to restore the flower
beds to the state shown at the top of this page.

But, I think the finished job makes the house look much better.

The cinderblock walls going to the basement were falling in.
So, I had them complety replaced by the same crew that did the sidewalk.

I also had a new gas furnace installed in January 2005,
but who want's to see a picture of that?

This water fountain was installed in 2001.
I got it at The Red Baron Auction in Atlanta in 2000.
Since this picture I've had all the large shrubery removed
and planted elsewhere so the fountain will be more visable.

This is much better. Now we have to rebuild the flower bed.

Widened the road in front of the house because of campground traffic.
Ma sure wouldn't like seeing all those trailers so close to the house though.

Relocated azaleas. Plastic fence replaced old ragged wood fence.

Our old barn, raggedy shop and garage.
These rotten RR ties and poorly placed flower bed will be removed some day.

This one was a Christmas present for Charles and Peggy's house.
But when are they EVER going to take it home?

This is my Electric Scooter I use for long walking - like in amusement parks.
It's a life saver.

My 2004 Christmas Tree and display.
I like it so much I want a bigger one for 2005 to
show off the other model trains I have and all the
Christmas stuff I got on sale AFTER Christmas.

I even had enough energy to decorate the two small pines in the front yard.
These trees were grown from seeds that came from a pine tree in Peggy's yard
that originally came from Uncle Elwoods Maryland tree farm.

Here's a Palm Tree Peggy and Charles gave me for Christmas 2004
because it matched the border in the newly painted Media Room.
No one's talked me out of the old display cabinet on the left yet.
It containes a lot of stuffed figures that we collected over the years.
Ma's Breakfront is seen in the hallway, and I'M KEEPING IT !

Better view of Ma's breakfront.

Mark Boganreif stained glass in the front door.
He's the most renown stained glass artist in
America today, and I have seven of his works.
This piece was custom made and I gave it to Pop for Christmas.

Can you see the beveled glass G?

Ma's Grandmother clock in downstairs hall.

January 2005 snow.

Four pictures stitched together looking down my driveway towards Lee Highway. CVS will be on the left. Synergy Savings and Loan on the right and a four lane boulevard between. That's the Gainesville Medical Center on the far right and Hillwood Sales on the far left. Because the new construction will eliminate my driveway I've sold the boxwoods to Ruppert Nurseries.

The new 7-Eleven on Webb Drive (an old family name) in front of Hillwood Park.
The road behind 7-Eleven is Nolan Drive (another old family name).
